Extended absence and non-return-to-bed detection
Continuous monitoring, even outside the field of view
Extended absence detection
Our fall-detection system isn't limited to real-time fall detection — it also includes a preventive "absence detection" measure that guards against potential risks when a patient is absent from the sensor's field of view for an extended period.
When a patient leaves the sensor's field of view, our absence-detection system starts a timer. If the absence exceeds the configured time, an alarm is automatically sent to caregiving staff, who can then take preventive action to guard against the risk of falls or injury. This function is particularly useful for patients who move around frequently and may leave their room unsupervised.
By using our fall-detection system together with the absence-detection feature, you can significantly improve the safety and quality of care for your patients. Not only does this help prevent potential falls, it also helps detect the need for assistance in areas not covered by the sensor, such as the bathroom, as well as unplanned departures from the room. Ultimately, this contributes to a safer, more satisfying healthcare experience for patients, families, and care teams.
Non-return-to-bed detection
In addition to absence detection, our system also monitors the patient's return to bed. When a patient gets up — particularly at night to go to the bathroom — a dedicated timer starts automatically. If the patient doesn't return to bed within the configured delay, an alert is immediately sent to caregiving staff.
This feature is especially valuable at night, when rounds are more spaced out: it allows staff to quickly spot a patient who has remained on the floor, disoriented or in difficulty outside of bed, and to intervene before the situation worsens. Combined with absence detection, it provides continuous coverage that keeps the resident safe while preserving their day-to-day autonomy.
