Why Mintt participated in the Falls Prevention Week?

From April 19 to 25, the week dedicated to the prevention of falls took place. This week of awareness has existed for 10 years in Flanders via Valpreventie.

Mintt has developed expertise in the field of fall prevention by analyzing no fewer than 100,000 h of falls and thousands of cases in order to develop its ISA fall detection solution. On the basis of this knowledge, the startup, which deploys its fall prevention system in rest homes and hospitals throughout the region, consequently wanted to participate in this week-long awareness-raising event dedicated to the prevention of falls.

Sharing information to help understand how falls happen

“We have been able to observe how much the gathering and sharing of information is key to better intervention in the event of a patient or resident falling,” explained Eric Krzeslo, CEO of MintT. “The fall is often due to several factors. For example, in the event of a fall requiring hospitalization, home care staff does not always have the opportunity to transmit the useful pieces of information to the surgeon who will have to take care of the person who fell. This is one of the primary features offered by our solution. It also is the basis for our desire to participate in Fall Prevention Week: to offer an online information platform that allows each health professional to find relevant and practical information about the prevention, management and support for the elderly who fall. Because in the circumstance of a fall, each piece of information is a link in the chain. We want to facilitate the collaboration among the health professionals.”

Online tools and best practices for all health professionals

The web platform will eventually be a real space for meetings between health professionals to discuss practical examples, chat and understand the realities each health care professional faces.

A fall is multifactorial. Each action taken by each person involved in the care practice contributes to effective management of the person at risk of falling or who has already fallen. All health professionals in contact with seniors are concerned, whether they are general practitioners, nurses in hospital, rest home worker, at-home care, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, rest home directors or hospital directors, social workers working in a hospital, mutual manager, in addition to the patients.

In times of COVID-19, it is of course impossible to gather health professionals in the same place. The website developed for this week therefore is committed to offering more flexibility to help in the sharing of examples of good practices, testimonials from professionals as well as concrete tools.
